An early visitor in the form of Monster the cat who, against all expectations, had managed to climb in through the window and leave muddy paw prints down the wall. Breakfast at the Clipper was A1 and we set off for a day trip to the Cape Reinga. Great biking roads with very little traffic seem to be the rule.
Places for a cup of tea are few and far between north of Kaiatia so be warned. Mary nearly set of a riot at the BP station, everyone came for a look at the Spyder and the queue to get gas was out the forecourt.
The weather was sunny and warm, in the mid 20's with only one shower all day. Terrific. We were substantially overdressed for the walk to the lighthouse and ended up pretty sweaty!
A late lunch at a cafe next to the most northerly gas station in NZ. Probably Waitaki but we can't be sure. It's not an obvious place to stop so don't, unless like us you desperately need a break.
