Crossing Auckland on the Motorway was very scary for Mary. She's not done a motorway on the bike before and may never again. It is with considerable relief we stopped at the Book Shop in Helensville, as usual, it's not bad but the coffee was a bit of a miss. I could not recommend the eggs benedict but Mary's BLT looked great.
Logan (a local top dresser) stopped to talk and find out about the Spyder at a random lookout we stopped at on the Kaipara harbour. We stood by the side of the road in the drizzle and he invited us to stay at his place, very generous but I think herself requires other accommodation for her 60th birthday
On to the Moo Loo (or whatever) at Mangataroto for tea. The lookout was a fizzer, all you could see was cloud.
We debated a night stop at Russell but really it's just too far. so on to Dargaville
Our night stop was the very aptly named Hobsons Choice motel at Dargaville (we did check out the rest). Apparently it's for sale if you want it, not my idea of fun.
Dinner at Blah Blah Blah was excelent, it's by far the best place in Dargavill. Don't be put off by the menu in the motel that is apparently very old and the owner is resisting doing updates, probably a lot else as well. Excellent.
