The Conero Promentory south of Ancona is "an area of outstanding natural beauty", well once perhaps. On a sunny and got saturday in mid May it's difficult to make out what it's like as it's so overrun by people. The picture may give an impression of what it was once like.
Further south from Numana on it seems to be one long ribbon development along the coast with grotty apartments, cafe's, running alongside the main autostrada and railway communications links.
We did not take a picture as the scene is best left to your imagination rather than experience the full horror. But that's just us - it's clearly hugely popular with the locals and you can only conjecture what might happen in the summer months when it actually gets properly crowded.
Lunch is surprisingly hard to find as we do not want to stay for a moment longer on the coast than necessary. The book suggests Portonovo with several excellent restaurants, doubtless they are buried in there somewhere but it looks like reservations are required territory.
Finally we get lucky with the Euthymia at Loreto (another hill top town, there are a lot of these) which has an excellent seafood lunch. Top notch.
Then it's back to the apartment and away to do the laundry at the laundrette.
