Spent a pleasant morning coffeeing, laundering, provisioning and lunching in La Gacilly. The Pirate King sallied forth, after getting the crew to swab the decks and polish the windows, nearly collecting several boats including us and the moored fleet of electric hire boats. The grumpy owner of the electric boats and hie wife came and setup their stall. The sun shone and life was generally good.
After lunch we set off towards Redon and thence down towards the coast getting as far as Cran. The waterway opens out with many ocean going yachts moored (no spaces for us) and very strong head winds across the open plains on either side.
After some discussion and a less than unanimous resolution we retraced our steps to return to the Nantes to Breast canal in the direction of Nante. The entrance lock is unusual having an submerging boom for it's upstream gate and the nice lock keeper lady takes us to watch a video on the operation of the locks on this stretch. Apparently we may have to deal with them ourselves.
The canal is in a wooded cut for the first few kilometers and is a much more pleasing, and less windy, place to be. We are also pleased to find space on the Pont-Miny near Fegreac next to a recreation and petanque court where we are able to barbecue and watch the setting sun over dinner and drinkies.
